Guardian Information:

We at Desert Shepskies love our unique dogs and consider them an essential part of the family. As Desert Shepskies grows, we will add future breeding dogs to our program. We feel the best way to accomplish this is to institute a Guardian program so that all of our breeding dogs are cared for in a nurturing home environment that can provide the individual love, companionship, and attention the dogs deserve. We will only keep a few of our breeding dogs with us in our home. A Guardian home provides a forever home for a future breeding dog, and we retain the breeding rights for a set amount of time. For females, this is usually about a 4-6 year commitment. Males will typically be retained as sires for a more extended period than breeding females, approximately eight years.

Being a Guardian for a Gerberian Shepsky can be an excellent way for families or individuals to enjoy the excitement of being a part of our breeding program and see the offspring of their Guardian dog bring joy and happiness to new families across the country. A Guardian will receive a puppy that we have chosen based on the best qualities and temperament that we are looking for in our breeding program. Additionally, military veterans and first-responders selected as Guardians will have free access to our companion and service dog training programs for the lifetime of their dogs.

Females will stay with us for one week during breeding and then return to us one week before the expected due date. She will stay with us until the puppies are weaned, usually 5-6 weeks, and then return home to you. Guardians are welcome to visit their dog and interact with the puppies during this time.

Guardians are responsible for maintaining the dog's health, which includes a safe environment, quality dog food, routine vaccinations and exams, socialization and training, and above all, love and affection. All genetic health testing and breeding-related costs are the expense of Desert Shepskies LLC. Once the Guardian dog has completed their breeding career, the dog will be spayed or neutered at our expense and then remain with the Guardian as a forever companion or service dog.
